Egyptian Burlesque, oh joy

Today was my first Belly Dancing class in Canada. On the whole (preparation H feels good – sorry couldn’t resist), it was okay. I got a bit of attitude from some dancers when I first arrived, but the teacher was super nice and welcoming. It’s not really the style of dance that I’m used to. To be honest, I’ve always held this type of dancing in pretty low regard, the kind of dancing that was done by women for men. The kind I learned always seemed like a big celebration, where women were dancing for themselves and each other – guys were just the lucky bystanders. Like the difference between all out slutty and flirty.

Of course I’m going to do my best at it. It’s not as challenging as the other styles, but I do get to keep in dancing shape. It’s always good to learn as much as possible about a given style and most of the people in my class are really nice and sweet. I just not the style that I want to do. It’s not forever and really it’s going to be hard for any teacher to compare to Rena in Prague. She was simply fantastic.

In the end it doesn’t matter as much… I’m still shaking my booty.
